Exactly! While many use it for bragging rights (nothing really wrong with that), perfectly good systems can have much lower WEI scores and still more than adequately do the job they were intended to do. No one would reasonably expect a notebook to do the job of a workstation machine. The intention (and most practical use) of WEI is to establish a performance benchmark one can use to see if a machine is still working up to snuff or if a modification actually did create an increase in performance (or vice versa, as can happen).
My notebooks have much lower WEI scores than my monster of a desktop machine. It doesn't bother me in the least since I running only a tiny 15" screen and do far less multitasking. They are easily portable and only get used mostly for web surfing and, occasionally, listening to music or reading a book. That is all I expect from them.
I look at it this way. I may not have the fastest PC but I have 4 of them connected up to my 3 monitors so I do own some serious computing power. I am usually on the web with 6 tabs open, listening to music, looking at email, chatting to family surfing on another PC. The 4th machine is just there for whatever. I am also running virtual machines and fooling around with them. I could have had a machine that scored top numbers but then I would have had only 2 of them. I decided to have several as I can always have one working and free no matter what. I should really swap one of the video cards around to improve the numbers on 2 of the machines. I'll do that when I feel a little better. It is hot 90F and muggy it gets to my heart so I need to take it easy
Heck, if a machine does what you want and need to do, then screw the numbers. They were just intended to be just benchmarks to see if any changes were beneficial or not or if performance was degrading over time. My notebooks' WEI score are way lower than my desktop's but I don't give the north end of a southbound furry little rodent since they all do what I want and need them to do.
I totally agree with the Lady above. That's just number's. It's the same with the benchmarks on smartphones. I don't care how much my Nexus score's, because it's faster than 80% of new devices.
