    Screens keep getting deselected

About a week ago my computer started deselecting whatever screen I am on every few seconds. If I am on a full screen game it kicks me out to my desktop every few minutes. Typing out this post alone is/was a major headache. I can't really get anything done right now. I googled this problem and so far have not found any solutions that have worked for me. I tried going into my settings and deselecting the check for updates option as that was something that was suggested. I have also tried restarting and shutting down my computer numerous times. Since this problem started I have not been able to successfully run McAfee, I go to open it and all that appears is a blank white screen. Oh, and of course my computer warranty just expired around Christmas.

Any suggestions would be helpful! Right now my computer is basically useless.

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Let's see if it is related to McAfee.

Just as an experiment, please download MSE. Don't run the installation file, just save it to your desktop.

Disconnect from the internet and uninstall McAfee... restart and install MSE. When MSE wants to get its updates, please re-connect to the internet.

If you prefer McAfee, you can uninstall MSE and put it back on after we finish solving your problem.

This may help, run the steps outlined in this tutorial, Option Two, and reboot the system:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If that doesn't correct the issue, run it two or more times with a reboot between.
    You may get this result:
    Code:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
    example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.
Or a message that no integrity violations were found.
Or that Windows Resource Protection found errors it cannot repair, if so rerun the steps above.

McAfee (and AVG) is known to cause many w7 crashes and other issues.

I ran a full system scan last night, this morning I thought that the problem was fixed, but tonight it is back. My computer wanted to do an update, let it go through that. When I started the computer back up I noticed that AIM seemed to be crashing from start-up. I uninstalled AIM and am now just sitting here waiting to see if that fixed the problem.

I tried to uninstall McAfee and it keeps freezing my computer, connected to the internet or not.

See if you can uninstall McAfee in the safe mode.

If that does not work try to uninstall it after a clean boot:

Well last night I was able to get a couple of hours of uninterrupted work done after I uninstalled AIM. This morning the problem is back again. So frustrated! How do I go into safe mode?

Trying again this morning to uninstall McAfee, it hasn't crashed my computer (yet) but all that shows up is a white box with nothing in it.

I figured out how to get into safe mode. No luck there either. Tried to just delete the folders and it told me that I need to be the admin to do anything, except that I am the admin on this computer as I am the only user! This stupid program is starting to feel like cancer! I just want it gone!!!

It is rarely a good idea to start deleting program files in the hopes that a program will go away - especially one with kernel level drivers like anti-virus tools use.

Which McAfee product do you have? You might want to re-install it to repair the installation and then uninstall it.

I've spent hours with McAfee phone support on one XP box (not one that I own - one that I support). The end result was, the McAfee firewall had fewer features/settings than the native Windows firewall does. There was no way to tell McAfee to limit a connection to a certain IP address :-(

I've not looked at McAfee's antivirus products in a while, so I downloaded the one that they provide to AT&T customers. I installed that one inside a virtual machine and played around with it for a while. It was a 177MB download plus more for the signatures.
