    Speeding up Windows 7

What are some programs that will speed up my computer? I know that CCleaner is one.. I don't want to download something and have a scam.. I want to be able to to play Minecraft and Bad Company with a better frame rate. My computer is capable of running these, just need a boost. What do I need to do?

    Hello Scooter,

You might see if using the latest video driver may help some.

In addition, you could try the options you like in the tutorial below to help improve Windows performance to hopefully help the game a bit more as well.

    Optimize Windows 7

    Hope this helps, :)

Software cannot over come hardware limitations. You want to run those games with much better performances you need better hardware.

Equally important is to have a perfect install. If you're still running the Compaq factory preinstall that is the worst possible install one can have. So I would shed the bloatware and unleash Wn7's native performance by doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

But I agree with Logic that the CQ60 is a weak laptop so that makes it ever more important you have the cleanest possible install to see what it can do.

2010MegaScooter all the post above this one will help make you computer the best it can be but that is all the post will do. Those great suggestion will give you a little boost but will not make your computer a gamer. Your equipment is just not satisfactory for quality games played in a quality fashion.

CCleaner will not speed up Windows. In fact it may cause you issues. They are all scams.

Besides tweaking game settings to get better performance at the expense of some graphics quality, the only thing that will speed up your games is better hardware.

CCleaner is the one exception that will clean both the disk and registry safely. I've not seen a single verifiable case of it messing up anyone's install, while we see examples every week here of Registry Cleaner scamware ruining Win7 beyond repair. So don't fear CCleaner, but realize that while it can lessen the load of temp OS and browser files, and leftover reg keys, none of this compares to having a perfect install on adequate hardware.

Since you have barely adequate hardware, you can see what a perfect install gains you and then decide from there. With the Athlon Dual Core 2ghz processor you might even benefit from maxing out the RAM, but you'd have to see. http://www.cnet.com/laptops/hp-compa...-33496182.html

I stripped one of those down to parts last summer to clean the heat sink and it still runs hot, but it runs and is in daily use by my friend. I doubt he'd use it for gaming, but watches Netflix on it.

With a 2.2GHz CPU and an on-board graphics you cannot expect much for gaming. And since it is a laptop, there is little you can do about it - in terms of upgrading. If you want to do serious gaming, get a modern desktop with a decent graphics card or at least an Intel 4000 chip.

Hum didn't check the specs out there is also very little RAM and DDR2 at that plus a spinner HDD - time for a build or as mentioned a new machine I suspect:)
