    Backup drives should never reside inside a computer nor even be connected except while updating a backup. Otherwise, they are susceptible to data loss or corruption the same as the other disk in your computer, such as early failure from more frequent use, malware, PSU failure frying internal components, theft, natural disaster, user error (such as accidental deletion), etc.

    Five new posts to an old thread before I responded ('tis not uncommon for newbies to necro post). My response was to a comment in one of the recent posts so it was both timely and relevant.

    Since many find the Forums by doing a google search for their problem, threads never really can expire but need to be kept current when joined by newbies. The Admins are savvy enough to not close threads which are Solved, since years later there is often new information, tutorials or updated fixes that need amendment or else search results are stale, dated or now wrong.
