PC does not recognize new CPU

hi guys. i've been dealing with this for over a couple of months and now it's starting to get on my nerves. recently i got a new graphics card and a new processor for gaming since that's pretty much the only thing i use my computer for. now that i have all the parts i want, my computer won't recognize my new cpu. and in turn, i'm pretty sure that means it isn't giving my computer all of the power that it should be giving it, right? i've just finally got all the parts i want, and it isn't running the way i want it to. i've tried nearly everything i can and i told myself i would never turn to forums until i lost all hope. well i've lost all hope. i'm not entirely great with computers so i figured y'all would know how to help. i'm not sure how bad my system is either, so if y'all had any extra advice that would help my pc run better, i would love every single one of you.

here are the specs that i think you need to know:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
Mobo: BIOSTAR Group N61PB-M2S (to my knowledge, this is old.)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Memory: DDR2 2048MB

again, i'm not too computer savvy so if you need more information or if you can help me any further than just this problem, i would GREATLY appreciate it, thanks guys.

Well if your PC does not recognize your CPU, it would not turn on. Are you sure you have the BIOS settings for it correct. Is it seated properly. You may want to go to your MOBO's website and see if they have a BIOS update. Sorry I can't be more help.

my computer knows that there's a processor in there, it just doesn't know it's the new one. it says that it's unknown. like i said, i'm not too computer savvy. i wouldn't know about any of the bios settings, i'd have to be walked through it. although i have looked for an update for the bios and i couldn't find one. may have not looked hard enough, but i couldn't find one.

You should check the wattage of your MB and your CPU, I may be wrong but it appears that you have a 95 watt motherboard and you are trying to install a 125 watt cpu which may not be supported. I searched the model number for the mb you have listed and all I came up with is N68S+ Ver. 6.x and this board is 95 watt maximum.

So if anything I would just need to get a new motherboard?

Are you sure that is the correct model number? I cant find that exact model in biostar list. But possibly you may have to get another motherboard that supports a 125 watt cpu.

what is your current cpu? that is working.

Yeah I'm positive that's the mobo, I had the same problem of not finding the model number. And the CPU that I listed is the one in my computer right now. It works. My computer just doesn't recognize it.

You're lucky it works at all. The x4 965 is a 125 W CPU and that motherboard only supports up to 95 W CPU's,

As a result there is no support in the bios for it and that is why it isn't being recognized properly.
