This is not a physical disk. This is just another partition on the same disk. If that problem persisits, you may look at shopping for a new disk.

Because, if there is no CPU utilization and no significant disk activity, my guess would be that your disk is 'hanging' somewhere. But try to get a second opinion on that.

Did you do the virus scan that was suggested.

Yes I did the virus scan, it turned up nothing. The problem seems to be on and off. Right now my computer is running fine, but an hour ago it was slow. Should I just wait and see for now or could that cause damage to the disk?

Nah, it won't damage the disk. But since we really don't know the true cause of the problem, I suggest to observe it some more. Maybe you can find a pattern.

It may also be 'hanging' in the internet. So keep that possibility in mind. We do not have much to go by.

Look also into the Event Viewer > Summary of Critical Events whether there is anything noteworthy. You get to the Event Viewer when you press Start > right click on Computer > Manage. Then it is on the top left.

Windows 7 has become too slow suddenly
i have windows 7 ultimate x64, few days back it suddenly became very slow. it takes about 3 mins to show desktop after logging in. then another 3-4 mins before i can use the machine . then also it works very slowly. someone help .

Windows 7 suddenly VERY slow with ~5%CPU usage
untill a couple of weeks ago my PC was running perfectly, quickly, etc but one day i turn it on and suddenly EVERYTHING is slow.
