Dell Inspiron 17R is lagging when playing an MMO.

Just as the title says, I can't play any MMO without lagging. And it only seems to be my laptop that's doing it as well, because when I start to lag, I will ask my fiancee, who is playing on my desktop if she's lagging as well and she'll say no and that everything is working fine for her. I even asked my brother who is sharing my internet with me if he was lagging when I was and he said the same thing.

So now I know that it's my laptop that's causing this, I thought that it was my WiFi adapter but I'm not sure.

    Hi djcrider75,

Since your brother is getting an optimum performance with the same internet connection, it appears to be an issue with the Dell laptop.

As suspected, it could be the 'wireless adapter'. You may try using the notebook with an 'ethernet cable' directly plugged with the router. If an improvement is observed, you may try updating or re-installing the 'wireless card drivers'. Three different Dell models (N7110/5720/7720) are branded as 17R; please share the exact model type (Each model is built with a different adapters. Need to know the one that is installed in your system). To confirm the adapter type, you may follow these steps:
    - Open 'Device Manager' > Expand 'Network Adapters' > Capture details of 'Wireless devices' listed there > Share details.
    - You may also try updating the driver your self. Click Support for Home | Dell US > Enter 'Service Tag' > Select 'Windows 7 64 bit' > Expand 'Network' > Locate and download apt driver from there > Follow on-screen instructions to complete installation > Recheck performance

You may also try uninstalling 'AVG anti-virus' to see if that helps: Download tools and utilities | AVG India > Restart system > Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

If the issue persists, you may also try updating/re-installing the 'display drivers'.
Click Support for Home | Dell US > Enter 'Service Tag' > Select 'Windows 7 64 bit' > Expand 'Video' > Download and install the driver for 'GeForce GT 525M' > Restart the notebook and check results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

    Hi djcrider75,

    Thank you for the reply.

Would like to know if you tried using the notebook with an Ethernet cable plugged in? If yes, how did that impact the gaming experience?

Also share if you followed the steps I shared in my previous post, to find more about the details of 'wireless adapter' installed in the unit. Inspiron N7110 is built with either one of the following cards:
    • Dell Wireless WLAN 1701 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0
    • Dell Wireless WLAN 1702 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0
    • Intel Centrino Wireless-N1030 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0
    • Intel Centrino Advanced Wireless-N6230 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0
    • Dell Wireless WLAN 1502 Half Mini-Card
    • Dell Wireless WLAN 1503 Half Mini-Card
    • Intel Centrino Wireless-N1000 Half Mini-Card
    • Intel 6150 WiFi / WiMAX Half Mini-Card

Please capture and share details of the 'wireless adapter' installed; will help you with the appropriate driver.

You may also try uninstalling 'AVG anti-virus' to see if that helps: Download tools and utilities | AVG India > Restart system > Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

If the issue persists, you may also try updating/re-installing the 'display drivers'.
Click Support for Home | Dell US | Dell US > Enter 'Service Tag' > Select 'Windows 7 64 bit' > Expand 'Video' > Download and install the driver for 'GeForce GT 525M' > Restart the notebook and check results.
If not tried already, please update drivers for 'GeForce GT 525M'. Also remove 'AVG' and install Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows to recheck performance.

Would request you to perform these steps and share the findings. Will take it forward from there. Do reply if you have any further questions.
