Mysterious CPU usage
When I get offline and stop all activity on my computer, memory usage goes down, but CPU usage goes up. Why is that?

Hi bradg and Welcome to Seven Forums.
Could be lots of reasons mainly harmless. Your antivirus maybe scanning, the drive might be defragging as you are "idle". How high does it go? 25 to 30% can be normal if the computer is "housekeeping" but if it contunues for hours you may have a virus or malware or a program running in the background that you are unaware off.
Post a screen shot of your task manger screen and we'll take a look.
Please also attach a msinfo32 file, just to check which programs are booting at Startup.
Start > Type: msinfo32 > File, Save
Once you saved the file, then you will need to follow these instructions to upload the file in your post:
Notemsinfo32 will not contain any personal information or product keys.
Many thanks. It's moderate usage, up from the 10% range to the 40% range, and it soon calms down, so I'm not complaining, just curious.
Nothing looks wrong to me. Your PC is just housekeeping. When you are not using it it will do tasks and use the CPU to carry them out. This can happen after updates or closing programs. To improve performance you might want to add some memory so you have a total of 4GB ram.
