Mechanical data drive taking a long time to show contents in folder

So I have an issue with my downloads folder. I have a Samsung 830 SSD as my main boot drive. 99% of my data is on a 640gb WD black drive. When I click on my downloads folder, which is stored on the WD drive, it takes a while to build up what is stored in the folder. I tried to click on the index setting for that specific folder, but I haven't found it to really work. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've never given the mechanical drive a defrag. I'll give it a shot and post back.

EDIT: The Analyzation only reported 3%. Not sure if that is really enough to cause slowness, but I Am giving it a shot anyways.

EDIT II: Defragged but is still taking quite a bit to build.

    Any other ideas?
