    Unwanted task manager processes

    hi guys,
I checked my task manager, I have like 12 svchost.exe running and one of them is hogging memory. They exist since I format my harddrive last week so I don't think infections have anything to do with them. Anyways I still run a full scan with avg and no suspicious result return. I remember I used to have only 5 svchost.exe running.
Can I remove disable some of them? How should I do that?

And I've got a wininit.exe which I have never seen before. It says this is a windows start-up application. Should I keep it?

    Thanks.

Each svchost.exe is running a Windows service. Some services are vital and disabling them could cripple your computer. Others could be safely disabled. This previous Forum thread discusses svchost.exe as well as this Microsoft article

Why do I have so many SVCHost.exe processes?

    What is svchost.exe?

Wininit.exe (Windows Initialize) is a core system process that originated in Windows XP and has been passed down to Windows 7. The file was created to allow uninstallers to run and process commands stored in the file WinInit.ini. This allows programs to take action while the computer is still booting up. In Windows 7 it primarily acts as a launcher for the majority of the background applications that are always running. I'd leave it alone.
