Dbanning - Give me extra Info on it

So I have a corrupted hard drive from my laptop.
I gave it to my IT instructor and she told me she can fix it by Dbanning it.
I had no clue what she was talking about until I did some research on it.
It's original name is the Darik's boot and nuke.
Is there anything I need to know about the setup and what to expect?
My IT instructor told me that I will be installing my Windows 7 Pro on it after it has been Dban.
This will be my first time Dbanning my own hard drive.

DBAN basically wipes the drive, rather than a conventional format that just removes certain pieces of data to make the drive appear blank DBAN will physically rewrite every sector/byte to ensure it is blank

Then how exactly will I get my OS onto the hard drive?

Let's keep in mind I'm being instructed by my instructor who has a bachelor's degree in the IT field. So I trust her expertise. I am not doing the dbanning alone.

Can anyone give me info on my dads embarrassingly old sony desktop MB?
So Back in 04 my dad bought a sony PCV-RS420 Desktop. He rants how he paid 2 grand at the time and that the computer techs at his shop (Which my dad is not, Just a end user) were all bowing to him on his powerful computer purchase. Here is the funny part. When I was young, one of the first lessons...

Shared memory, how much of a boost would extra RAM give?
I've bought the machine (Acer Aspire 5742) described below. I'm wondering what performance boosts I could expect if I raised the amount of RAM in the machine from 3Gb to it's max, 8Gb. What kind of boost, if any, will the graphics get with the extra RAM, for instance? Technical Details ...
