In my experience no. Laptops are designed for that use.

It may however affect your performance next time you shutdown and boot up but that's normal

Hibernating for long period of time does not harm the laptop. But that may not be the issue.

It depends on the reason why you have to recover the data. If it is to recover deleted files the drive should not be used for any other purpose until all recoverable files have been recovered. Recovery should be done with something like a Live Linux CD or with the drive attached to a different computer. Always recover files to a different drive. Using the computer may overwrite the files in question and than there is no possibility of recovery.

If the reason is because of a physical problem with the drive, or even if this is suspected, then you will be asking for trouble. Continued use of the drive, even for the purposes of hibernation, may further damage the drive to the point that recovery is impossible.

Read my second post in this thread for further explanation:
is hdd harmed by frequent data recovery?

Hibernate is perfected in Win7 and no different than shutting down the PC except that it writes whatever is left open to the HD before shutting down, then starts up much faster and restores everything that was left open. I don't think you could expect data Recovery tools to resume seamlessly after such a modified shutdown however.

If you'll tell us what the problem is with your PC we can probably help you with that.

Crashes when hibernating about 50% of the time
Hi, Windows 7 started failing to hibernate properly a few months ago now and although I don't see a BSOD, a memory dump is produced and when I boot up again, Windows tells me it has recovered from a serious error. No crashes experienced during normal usage though! Please see zip file attached...

Laptop taking a long time to connect to network share, if at all.
For some reason my laptop takes forever to connect to a shared drive on my desktop on my home network. I've tried connecting to it by mapping the drive and through windows explorer and same thing. Sometimes it won't even connect at all. I don't have this issue with other computers on the network....

Recycling a movie from my harddrive is taking long long time.
Why is this. Like 10 minutes plus and it still says recycling. It should only take a second. Is it bad to let it continue at its own pace or should I restart the PC and try it again?

Laptop takes a long time to sleep
When I place my laptop into sleep (either from the button or closing the lid), the screen goes dark and then it basically locks up. If it's on battery the battery will last a short time (as if it was on) and then it dies. Typically, if it's on AC, I end up having to hold down the power button...
