HD Activity LED Blinking Every Second With Laptop Battery Removed
Hello all,
My hard drive activity LED was blinking on a routine basis so I used Process Monitor to isolate the problem to a PID 4 process which appeared to be flushing the hard drive cache on a routine (and continual) basis. So, I went through the process of trying all different HD write cache combinations (disable, turn off) but the flushing continued. The final fix was to put the battery back in the laptop and this stopped the routine access and the HD flushing ceased. Now, I'm only guessing but this routine flushing appears to be a defensive measure, initiated by some process related to the the power scheme, to prevent data loss when the battery backup is not available. However, since I only use this laptop on a very infrequent basis, and when I do, I would like to use it exclusively on AC, I would like to keep the battery removed on a permanent basis. Note: The continual HD access does have a slight impact on performance. I wish there was some way to install Win 7 on a laptop and give it the power scheme of a desktop. Any suggestions?
Thanks, in advance, for your responses,
