Let's just try the others for now,

On each of the in the device manager, expand the tree and right click to get the properties.

Go to the details tab and then change the dropdown menu to hardware IDs.

    Post a screenshot of those.

I installed the card reader driver and the 3 ? disappeared. here's a shot of another one I didn't see before. Windows says it disabled it because it didn't work right. I have to take off until about 2 this afternoon. Thanks for your help so far!

    You're welcome, we'll be here.

That is the AMT, the chipset I linked.

Is that the only one left with an exclamation?

    Device manager

AMT never had a question mark--the only one left is: Intel (R) Active Management Technology SOL (COM4)

Just for fun, I downloaded a burner on my Asus laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate) and tried to create a repair disc. I got the same error message as before on this computer (beginning post).

BTW--I wasn't able to locate my other blank discs which needs to be the next step on my burning issue.

    AMT = Active Management Technology

The SOL is Serial Over Lan

This used to be a business computer.

It is used for managing computers remotely by the IT staff.

Forget about that for now, this thread is starting to go in too many directions.

So you have two computers that won't create a repair disc?

Like I said before, you don't need to download a burner to create one, windows 7 has a built in burner, and that is what it uses to create the repair disc.

Since it happening on two computers I would definitely be trying other discs. You only need a CD for a repair disc, but you will need a DVD for the ISO.

I'll see if I can get some other discs--if I find out anything I'll post it.

Yeah, I think that's the best way to go right now.
