"If you have 4 or 8 GB of RAM there's really nothing to be concerned about. Windows 7 will run fine in even 2GB of RAM."

I guess you didn't notice I run it in a VM with 512MB of RAM. but would I recommend someone else to run Windows 7 in less than 2GB of RAM? No I wouldn't, unless all they do is go to websites and read e-mail.

Windows 7 Ultimate

Omega, no need to be an arse about things.

Simply put, windows 7 requires less ram at boot, and during normal operation in extended periods than vista does. There really isn't much more too it than that.

After a clean install on an old pentium 4 system with 1gb of ram, win7 used a total of 310mb of ram. This value reached about 450mb after using some basic windows software and surfing the net. All background processes and services such as superfetch and windows defender were left untouched.

Minimalist RAM Usage?
Hey everyone; this is my first post on these forums, so I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse. When I run windows 7 idle, I get somewhere in the neighborhood from 600 MB used (for a second or two after start up) to about 900 MB used. This is from an idle computer running no programs, with...
