Why is this PC so slow?

We have 3 PCs. All win7 x64. The naughty one is only 6 months old. Plenty of RAM etc. Yet even opening up our local 'speedtest net' page is taking longer than me typing this thread.

Its a fairly normal setup. I see no reason for the slowness.

    Test results:

Download speed 0.27 mbps. The other PCs read download speed 3.3mbps.

After do what Ztruker has suggested.
Take a look at this Tutorial paragraph #7 by Brink.

    Optimize Windows 7

Compare it to your other computers. This could reveal some clues.

You may be confusing the PC's speed versus the internet connection and mobo's Ethernet speed. With traditional speed test like WEI how is the system performing. From the sounds of it you have slow internet, heavy traffic on same and or a mobo Ethernet that isn't as fast as the best of the best. Looking at just download and upload speeds then maybe exploring an adapter and your very internet connection speeds are really what you're looking for?

Looking at the spec's on your Gigabyte mobo I would say the issue is with the service provider/internet plan/modem and or router.

    Not sure what you mean.

    • I have a wifi modem with 3 PCs in the house. All 3 are wireless connections no cable to modem point.
    • PC1 & PC2 happily swim along at the internet connection's average good speed of 3.33Mbps.
    • PC3 has taken to crawling with a download speed 0.29Mbps

Then it's your wi-fi in that rig. You solved your own issue with that bit of info. Look to get a faster usb adapter or internal adapter.

Damn. In frustration I deleted the partition. The PC is a i5 8Gb Ram Gygabyte MB 6 months old. It used to work fine. But I dont sit at it much.

The adapter is new Belkin 150 wireless USB adaptor. N150 Wireless USB Adapter | USB Adapters | Wireless | Networking | Products | Belkin Australia Site

    Are you saying its crap?

I'll plug it into mine later today & test it God willing.
