Problem with computer going into max CPU usage

Just moved, now using Hughesnet and a Cisco linksys E#A4500 router, desktop hard wired into router port (compared to previous FIOS, also hardwired in).

Since setting up in the new location, when the computer goes into sleep or hibernation, it doesn't want to come out. It either stays asleep, or it comes up and the CPU goes into 100% usage, freezing everything else. Only way out is to restart ands when I restart, it works fine. MS Security essentials says no viruses, SpyBot finds no malware, and Windows malicious software tool finds nothing bad.

Any ideas on eliminating this problem?

Already tried the task manager, no apps listed and no CPU usage listed on the processes tab except for task manager. Occasional blips up from 0 usage for tea timer, part of spybot, but that's normal. The only place Task Manager shows it is on the performance tab. I agree it sounds like an infection, I just can't find an infection

I''ll try the other two. The only peripheral that is new is the router and hughesnet modem. There are two other computer are running on the router without this problem, so that is doubtful as a cause

Don't know what I should look for in device manager.

Device Manager would show problems with drivers. Once there click on View tab, select Show hidden Devices.

Look for one of three signs: red ex, yellow question mark, yellow exclamation mark.

Post back if you find any issues there.

You might consider asking a Moderator to move your post into the System Security Forum, there one of our trained members in Virus, Malware removal can assist you further. They would most likely ask you to download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. Have you run a system scan and post scan log results. They will analyze log entries to determine whether or not your system is infected.

Personally, I feel this would be a next step in troubleshooting your system.

However, perhaps one of our other members will see your post, and offer other suggestions.

I discovered the poblem. Spybot was going crazy. I uninstalled spybot aqnd the problem went away....
downloaded the latest spybot and ran it overnight, came back in the morning, had the sme problem, spybot was running and using the entire cpu, which is normal, btu it turned itself on and I couldn't tun it off. Never had the problem before and this is a clean copy, so i'm assuming something something in the OS changed with one of the security updates. Will also talk to safer-networking. spybot finds a lot of bad stuff that security essentials doesn't, so I'd like to keep using it, but only if I can figure out how to fix the problem

The only problem with that idea Andrew is that Spybot catches a lot of adware that Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't. And then thee's the fact that Spybot ver 1 is working just fine on my laptop, and that is what was on my desktop when this started. It looks to my inexpert mind like an incompatability issue or a corrupted file in the OS rather than buggy software.
