    explorer.exe high memory usage


    Hi,

    When turning on my laptop with Windows 7 (x64), the process explorer.exe memory usage increases significantly to reach 2GB.
    Using Process Explorer, I identified the thread msvcrt.ddl which may cause the problem, see the attachment.
    I did a safe mode reboot, it works fine. I did a clean boot by disabling all the processes, the problem is there.

    Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks for your reply.
    I cannot seen any MSVCRT.exe in C/Windows.
    I did a full system scan of the C drive with Avast Premier. It did not catch anything!

    It wouldn't hurt to post here and let them know you have MSVCRT.EXE
    Just to be safe. Let the folks there know you came from this thread.

These past few days explorer.exe has been reaching 29k+ of memory usage and I don't think it used to take that much memory. Any solutions to make it take smaller memory again?

I have a fairly powerful quad core PC with Win 7 but even at idle Explorer.exe runs at around 30-50000, total memory usage over 50% (total 2gb) before i even start opening any apps. My Win 7 PC at work for examle which is nowhere near as powerful runs at less than this with several Office apps...
Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this! I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine....
