    'cache.trash' undeletable

    Hi there,
Bit of a weird problem here - I've tried searching on it but can't find anything, hence joining and posting here.

I have a partition on my hard drive that was created by software that came with my buffalo hard drive 'bfrd-drive'. It is only 511 MB, but it is filled with folders named 'cache.trash' followed by a number. These should be safe to delete, but I cannot, I get an error message telling me the file name is not valid or too long.

There are now only 18.4 MBs free. It seems to be filling up! From experience I will soon be getting annoying "disk full' error messages.

Would be most grateful if somebody could tell me how to solve this problem and delete these annoying little b*ggers.

    Thanks awfully

I understand the weird files are there and you do not know how they are there, but....
Have you tried renaming the file to something small like kb and then keeping whatever file extension it is. Save it, and then right click any white area, hit refresh and then try deleting it?

You could also try unlocker, a small program that will force delete files.

I think a easier option would be to delete the partition created by the hardware vendor software, and then extend the unallocated space onto the desired partition.

    Many thanks for your input!
xBlueRobot: I have attached a screenshot of disc management. The drive in question doesn't actually show up, so I included the 'my computer' folder below it.

I use the buffalo hard drive regularly, so I am reluctant to delete the partition. Though I suppose I could reinstall it.

Andrew129260: there are thousands of files in thousands of folders so you can understand my reluctance to rename them. I will try using the program you suggested and see if it does the trick.

    Thanks again

Just tried unlocker, but it doesn't work when I highlight all items. It might work on an individual basis since it gave me an option to delete a file upon restarting the computer. However, as mentioned before, there are thousands of files like this and it would be too time consuming.

I think I will try uninstalling the software that come with the hard drive and see if I can delete/remove the entire drive. I will try this next week when I have more time.

If anybody has other advice please let me know...

Actually, I couldn't be bothered waiting. I uninstalled the buffalo utility and hey presto problem over.
Thanks for your input on this.

    Agreed, just offering an alternative.

Glad you got it resolved. Have a good one!
