Problems with CHKDSK - External Drive

Hi, (Sorry if this is wrong Forum - can't seem to find suitable one :-()

I have an empty 120GB SATA Hard Drive that showed some problems when checking with Chrystaldisc (CAUTION). I am running it as as external on a USB.

I reformatted it, then in CHKDSK ran:
'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'.

I started that 16 hours ago and the bar scale only looks about 15% completed. (about 1,500,000 clusters).

I have an i7 2600 with lots of ram.
Can anyone tell me if this rate of progress is normal and, if not, any advice?

    Thank you

My advise is to replace the drive ar at least never put anything on it you are not willing to lose.

Check disk repair runs are extremely slow on USB connected drives. Personally, I wouldn't run chkdsk on a USB drive. Use the maker's utilities if available. If that wasn't available, I'd temporarily plug it into a motherboard port.
