Yes, and you can run the Java update as having the latest is always best for security. I don't run Java myself to avoid infection it can allow. If it's needed for a program you'll be prompted.

After posting the BSOD file, please go back to the top of the thread and work your way through all the steps which haven't been tried yet.

i haven't run maleware bytes yet. I've got webroot antivirus as our virus program and no, LOL, I would really rather stay away from doing the reinstall unless really forced into it.
I'm checking the control panel/programs right now to see if anything is in there from when I did that online job video as we speak and will bounce over to the system restore to see what dates are available there to see where it has landed itself.

i don't think I need the Java, I believe it installed along with the video file program the day that I did the interview. I don't believe we ever installed it prior to that for anything.

Then I would uninstall it and check for infection using the two methods I gave you now.

I am currently in the process of attaching the files onto the BSOD thread. What all information do I need to include in that thread? Just the files that were now created?

OOPS! just got a server error???

    now what?

it finished the maleware scan - I just did the quick scan for now and it reported no malicious items detected anywhere. Should I consider doing a full scan or just go on to a next step?

Do the full scan to be most thorough.

What's required here is thoroughness, not missing any steps you've already been given.

Well, I think I successfully started a BS thread and attached the files this time around.
I'm going to get ready for work now. Have to close at the store tonight and then reopen in the morning so I probably won't get back to this until Friday evening.
I will go ahead and either do the full malware scan tonite after getting home from work or do it Friday after I get home from work.
Thank you so much for your patience and help! You have really helped take away some of the stress and even if we can't fix the laptop, I feel better knowing that I've had a great bunch of folks help me out! Have an awesome day and I shall try to give you some more great reputation once the forum allows me to do so.
