According to Microsoft, Windows sets the initial minimum size of the paging file at the amount of random access memory (RAM) installed on your computer plus 300 megabytes (MB), and the maximum size at 3 times the amount of RAM installed on your computer. Windows 7 handles virtual memory differently and more efficiently than previous version of Windows. So I believe most folks recommend you let Windows 7 decide what's best based on your computer usage.

Unless you have a specific need and understand what you are doing leave the pagefile on System Managed. This setting works well and is appropriate for most situations. If you have a large amount of RAM (8 GB or more) or disk space is constrained, such as on an SSD, then changes may be necessary or desirable.
