No, I still don't trust it. I tried it the other day and it still seemed to cause some lag after restarting. I'm all for clean boots post-XP.

My notebook hibernates both after an idle period and when its battery is on its last legs.

I've never had a single problem with it. Not even on Vista.

Sure, why not? It's practically indispensable for laptops that travel around in bags which inhibit airflow.

    .
I'm using hibernation with Windows 7 RC1 x64 on my desktop and it works fine. Since Windows 7 boots pretty fast it doesn't make as much difference (as Vista), but it's still nice. How well it works seems to depend on the BIOS. I had a PC running Vista that hibernated well except for the USB ports. They didn't work initially after waking the computer, but eventually woke up after a few minutes.

Virtually all hibernation issues are BIOS or driver related. Hibernation itself is perfectly fine.

I tend to use it more as a means of saving state (47 apps open doing various things) than as a means of speeding up the boot process. Those few seconds either way hardly matter, but what does matter is getting right back to where you left off in Word, Excel, AutoCAD...

As the distinguished geek Sulfuric Acid here above told, hibernation is practical to save the state of the computer. That's why I use it normally always, turning computer off only when I know in advance it's going to a while before I have to turn it on again.

    I like to use it.

So I understand that then you do not use command "powercfg -h off" but you just use for example sleep mode (S3 suspend to ram)?
