How to speed up netbook?

Not double because the netbook only has 1 ram slot and if I remove that that makes 2GB not 4GB or 3GB.

I think this is a good approach. RAM first and see what happens. 2GB should be plenty for Starter. The problem now is that you get too much paging. That really, really slows a system down.

Regarding the SSD - recently they had 60GB OCZ SSDs on sale (at Newegg) for $38. They were refurbished but OCZ is a serious company and they are probably better than new. You just have to shop around.

But if you think your sis can live with 32GB, that's OK too. My wife lives with little disk space too. But she has all her files on 32GB USB sticks.

The largest I can go up to is 2GB of ram that is why I am confused, ram or ssd? I mean I guess I could try to get her to get a 64GB ssd but I think she would most perfer the 32GB. Tell me a straight answer is the 32GB enough or not for mozilla firefox+windows 7+hulu+utube+netflix.

I am not sure what you mean but yes there is only 1 slot. I can't add another ram stick in because I have to replace the other one if I do get ram.

It sounds like the case, do we have a make and model number of this netbook? Would that not be helpful?

I am not sure what else you can tell me but the laptop is an asus 1025c.

OK so you want to order a good 2gb ram stick and swap it for the 1gb in the machine. As Christmas is coming you can use the 1gb stick as a tech Christmas tree ornament. The net book does have a sd card slot so you can write data to it when the SSD drive runs out of space and believe me a 32gb drive will run out of space unless you manage all aspects of updates and data, do you really see your sister doing that? Hence the members here urging you to do a rethink on SSD size. As I mentioned I would do the ram stick first and then if needed later watch for the falling prices on 60/80/120+ SSD's. Before you pull the trigger on that SSD and needed stock HDD enclosure I would open the Netbook up and make double sure it's a 2.5" drive which I'm 99% sure it is.

Looks fairly hard since I never took apart a laptop like that before but I am going to try it lol

So ram right then ssd or ssd then ram? On my sister laptop everything just loads slow even though I put a new windows start on it.
