    Safe to abort chkdsk?

    Hello!

I'd like to start by saying that I'm new to these forums, and that I wasn't able to find an existing thread addressing this particular question.

This started out with what I experienced as some problems with one of my SSDS, so I decided to run a chkdsk. I booted into safemode, ran cmd as admin and started a chkdsk d: /r.

However, I recently found out what might be the cause for the problems, and since this scan is known for sometimes running up for 20-30 hours, would it be safe for me to cancel it? (i.e. just close the cmd window)

    Thanks!

*edit: Perhaps I should add that the SSD I'm scanning is not running the OS.

    I would NOT interrupt CHKDSK.

Since you posted yesterday, it might have finished or you made the decision to 'cancel' it.

If you did 'cancel' CHKDSK, don't sweat it. It's just not in the "best practices" book; espcially for mechanical drives.

Isn't there a special chkdsk or scandisk for SSDs? The one in Windows8 was updated to accommodate SSD is what I heard. Also if it's an SSD it's got to be really big to take 20 hours to scan. I mean, it's memory with no moving parts.

I always thought that as long as there was an option to cancel, it would be alright to do it. But, don't take my word on it as I could be wrong.
