Windows 7: Can't get chkdsk to run...

Can't get chkdsk to run...

I need to run chkdsk /F on my system (C) drive, and thus far I've been thwarted. I've tried two ways:
  1. In windows explorer, right click drive C and select properties > tools > Error checking. A window pops up and I keep the default (Automatically fix file system errors) checked. When I click Start is advises that this will be set to run upon the next system start (I've read elsewhere that it will start before the GUI code is loaded). However, it never works!
  2. In command prompt mode (both in non-administrator mode and as run-as-administrator) I've entered >chkdsk /F -- and in both cases it advises that the next Windows starts the utility will run; yet it does not.
This is on a laptop running Win 7/Pro.

Any ideas?

You do not want to run check disk on a ssd.
Windows 7 or Sandisk program is probably stopping it.
Can you tell us why you need to run check disk.
What kind of problem are you having?

  1. My problem is with a laptop equipped with one 5400rpm hard disk; no SSD involved (my SSD, soon to be two, is on my tower machine.
  2. In an attempt to unpack an ISO file using a utility from Daemon utility, the unpack works fine, but when the actual installation of the software (Access 2013) starts and is just about done, it issues this error: "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction."
  3. I've researched that error message, and several solutions start with using our old friend, chkdsk /F.
Your thoughts?

Boot your Windows 7 install DVD, select Repair then Command Prompt and run chkdsk c: /f from there.

Passes chkdsk -- still have problems.

I finally got chkdsk to run; the problem was that I tried to execute chkdsk c: \F when it should have been chkdsk d: \F -- because when you run Safe Boot (via F8 key when BIOS is loading) and select repair computer > command prompt, you are in another RAM drive (X: as I recall) and what is then your C: drive has nothing in it, and the stuff you want to scan is in the D: drive. First time I ran it, it got 4 or 5 errors which it fixed. Ran it again and got 0 errors.

Alas, when I tried to install again, I got the same error message (refer to the attachment). This is after a lengthy install process and what I assume is in the final stage of installation (I just installed Access 2013 on another machine without these difficulties).

System: NOT the one in my profile. This laptop device has a dual-core Intel processor, 3GB DDR2 RAM, and plenty of hard disk space. We regularly run Photoshop CS5 on it with no performance issues.

Any ideas?

Can't run chkdsk

Tools Chkdsk with no /f /r says errors, bootup chkdsk says none
AHCI disk. Running chkdsk from Properties Tools with no autofix says there are errors. Dismount the drive and reboot. Chkdsk reports no errors found. Properties Tools Chkdsk still syas there are errors. Auslogics Defrag also says there are errors.

I try to run chkdsk but little window pops up and closes quickly like its not working help having problems with laptop wont defrag (disk error), wont restore to previous point (disk error)

I think I have discovered a bug with chkdsk... For no reason when I rebooted after a clean install I get the usual chkdsk as it starts up with 3 steps, it does it in about 2minutes and reboots as XP/VISTA, however it just loops over and over again, it just wont get out of it, and when I escape...
