Malware infection might have come back

I reinstalled GIMP recently for something, although I now prefer to use photoshop. Anyway, I thought the source I was getting it from was legit and I thought I had ticked/unticked all the right boxes when I installed it, only it ended up giving me a load of crapware along with it. Redesigned my Chrome browser and I ended up having to uninstall a load of crap, run CCleaner and I had to uninstall and reinstall chrome to get it back to the way it was.

Firstly I had to remove some extensions it added, which got rid of the tool bar I didn't need. Secondly, I noticed two things had changed about it- the vertical scroll bar changed appearance and the split screen feature didn't work so well. I mean it worked, but before you could drag it to the left and then drag one of the tabs to the right, only you didn't have to drag it all the way it was set up intelligently enough so you could just sweep it into the right hand of the screen and the computer would do the rest. It was a really nice feature, slick and easy to use and I had to basically reinstall chrome in order to get it back, and the scroll bar back to the way it was. Not that I didn't like the way the new scroll bar looked, just the fact that it came along with this malware I inadvertently infected my computer with.

Anyway, I thought I had fixed the problem until yesterday when I shut down my computer and it installed a load of updates. Now it's back to the way it was after this malware infection! I mean the extensions are not there, but it doesn't split screen as efficiently as it should again, and the tool bar has reverted back to the new style. Firefox still works ok with the split screen.

I deleted all the extension before I reinstalled it and there were no extensions there. I tried reinstalling it again yesterday, which didn't appear to fix the issue and now I appear to have google docs 0.5 there, which doesn't look particularly untoward, just not sure why it is there though.

Anyway I have attached the list of updates, and it all looks fine really, apart from the fact it seems to be downloading optional updates without my permission?

Does it sound like I am still infected with this malware then?

I need to get to the bottom of this because there is a security risk here, I need to know my google passwords are secure and I'd like it to work the way it used it as well!

I can't remember the name of the malware that it installed, began with an A. In my list of search engine, which I think I cleared there are ones called Findwide and Zinio in there, they don't sound very good so it looks like there is still something messing about with my settings. How do I get rid of this?

I just tried removing findwide and Zinio and reinstalling chrome but it didn't resolve this issue, still no slick split screening and these search engines are still there!

Just googling some answers and found this, looks like the new scroll bar is a new feature that has been introduced. What I don't understand though is why it defaulted to this when I got infected with malware, and then went back to the old style when I resintalled it only to then resort back to the new style a few days later?

I'm very confused by all this. To be honest I don't understand why people are complaining about something as trivial as this, I think the new scroll bar makes better use of space. If it's a new feature of chrome then I don't mind, if it's malware then I do mind.

What bothers me though is the reduced functionality of the split screen feature, I don't understand why it doesn't work as well anymore and want this feature back.
