Scheduled Task: Configure for? - Help please.

    Hi,

I've decided to create a scheduled task to clean up after windows updates.

Scheduled Task: Configure for? - Help please.-2014-01-18-15_04_58-disk-cleanup-settings.jpg

I've created the task and scheduled it to run every second Saturday of every month (to make sure that it only runs a few days after patch Tuesday). My problem is that I don't understand the "Configure for" options.

I see options to configure for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2

It would seem obvious that I should choose Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 as it's a Windows 7 machine but other tasks run perfectly okay with Windows Server 2008 R2 selected. Why is this?

This previously created scheduled task (an elevated shortcut) seems to work just fine:

It sounds like you have tasks where only Windows Server 2008 R2 is selected?

W7 and WS2008 R2 were released at the same time. The guts are about the same - so the "Configure for:" drop down offers them both on the same line. The setting should be Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 for the task that you are setting up.

You might want to given yourself a week more more after update Tuesday before doing the cleanup.

Thanks for the info. The wording should have been:
"It would seem obvious that I should choose Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 as it's a Windows 7 machine but other tasks run perfectly okay withWindows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2 selected. Why is this?"

Anyway as you have explained that the settings should be Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 then that's what I will use. It just puzzles me that tasks seem to run successfully no matter which of these settings is used!

    Many thanks.
