custom startup group of services, apps,...search terms pls?

I'm not sure how to word this in a search, but I'm wondering if there's a way to accomplish:

Easily, quickly switch between "modes" for various tasks, to best utilize for performance.
    Example-
Normally, I want programs x, y and z to start at boot, A-Z services to start, etc etc etc etc.
But, if I'm wanting to dedicate as much resources as possible to one specific program for an extended time, I would disable as much of that as possible, in some cases making other tasks impossible (for example the server service, no file sharing/network browsing if disabled).

    THE QUESTION:
Has anyone heard of a tool to allow you to save the various settings and changes made, and switch between these...."modes"? OR, can you think of better search terms for what I'm looking for?

    Thanks,
    Akira

Finally found something like what I was looking for. A GUI would of course be nice, but I can handle a batch file.
