Sorry Noel, I was writing a PM to Tom saying "If Noel does drop in, he will see that you're already @ work"

But thanks for dropping in!

No, I don't think you ever did use the word "pretty" in reference to me... but after I buy you a few pints.... who knows? Now, I have to extend my offer to Tom, if he's ever in the Philly area. sandpd, you might as well get in on this, I'm buying the next round.

Thanks go out to both Tom and Noel for their continued response to my requests for help.

Back to the topic......

Bill

shame on me, yep!

bill, what name i haven't called you yet is what i didn't remember, thinking you've bailed out on me.
not knowing you were out there battling snow storms coupled with blackouts and...oh boy. my bad forgive. hope everything is back to normal.

most we ever battle here is that stinking sun in your face 24/7 year round. but i'll still settle for that though.

noel thanks for droping in man. much appreciated.

tom i'm at your bequeath now sir. carried out your instructions to the t. downloaded both the sfcfix.exe and the sfcfix.zip and produced the sfcfix.txt.

SFCFix.txt

did the sfc/scannow, restarted the system but when i copied the "cbs.txt desktop" command and tried pasting it into command prompt, the msg was "access denied". so then i decided to type it in and ended up with "invalid command"

what I've tried doing was to manually copy the cbs log file, paste it on desktop and send it as an attachment (684kb) but for some reason it's not uploading. same with a screenshot of the command prompt "access denied". not uploading either. but I'm still trying to see if I can get this cbs log fill uploaded, I know how important it is.

i'm mighty greatful for this help folks and sorry for the delay

sandpd: sticks and stones...but names - and I've been called many by the best

I am going to bail now though, Tom and Noel are the folks you need for this issue. Looks as though Tom is on point, no sense both of them giving your the same fix, eh wot?

As you might expect, Tom is fairly busy, so give him some time to work through other stuff on his plate.

bailin' Bill

The command in your snapshot is wrong - you missed the actual command out!

COPY C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt

is the correct command - but it looks like you got there in the end anyhow

The odd thing is that you appear to have swapped one faulty file for another...

I've seen this once before, and if I repair this new corruption it will only corrupt the other file again, in an endless cycle.

Can you download and install the System Update Readiness Tool please?

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [November 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Post the log when finished:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

hi tom, did ran the tool

checksur.persist

CheckSUR.persist.log

let me run this by you to see if it has any bearings on this corrupt file thing.

after downloading the two files (sfcfix.exe and sfcfix.zip) i disconnected from the internet.

when i dragged the sfcfix.zip file onto the sfcfix.exe file, a dialog box popped up alerting that there was no internet connection to check for file updates and it seems to have stalled at that point.

so after some secs with no action, i cancelled the process, connected to the internet and did the whole thing over again.

tom, i'm mentioning this just incase by cancelling the process, perharps corrupted something. if that is the case, i can just download fresh copies and go through the whole process again with better understanding.

thanks for helping

sammy
