How do I pin a website to the taskbar in Win7?

The way I used to pin an icon to the taskbar was to first send a website icon to my desktop, using Win7 and IE10. Then I click and drag the icon to the taskbar, where it resides as a stand-alone icon. Recently it does not do this. Instead when I drag the icon to the taskbar it says "Pin to Internet Explorer". How do I get it to stay as a separate icon?

    Hello Charita,

If you like, the tutorial below has a few options that you could use to pin a website shortcut to the taskbar.

Shawn: thanks a million for your help. The tutorial helped immensely. I didn't even know what a Favicon was, and now I do. I can add icons to my taskbar easily. Thank you again for promptly coming to my help.

BTW: dragging the favicon on the desktop also works with Explorer (not only Internet Explorer) if you want to make a shortcut of a folder.
