unable to set realtime priority to a process

every time I right click a process and try to set priority and select realtime, I get the following message

"Unable to set Realtime priority. The priority was set to High instead"

Any ideas how to fix it ?

    Hello Alduins,

What process were you wanting to set realtime priority to?

Normally, you would not want to set a process to realtime because it could cause your system to slow down to a crawl since all other processes are put on the back burner to allow this one to have all resources.

Setting a process priority to real time is very risky. The problem is that there are critical system threads that run with a lower priority and they could be starved of CPU time. The consequences of that will not be pleasant.

Contrary to some Internet articles this will not normally make a process run faster. The rare cases where it will are the most dangerous.

You really need to understand what you are doing when using real time priority.

Edit: setting real time priority on a CPU bound process (as is the case here) is almost guaranteed to cause serious problems. Only in the event there are other CPU bound processes running (there shouldn't be) would this improve performance.

With those programs, you would only want to set them to no more than high for the reasons posted above.

Setting it to Realtime is bad anyway because of the other guy's reasons. It will do more harm than good and is just taking a road to destroying your pc. You should just get better hardware.
