Hibernation is not enabling

Hi,

I recently found a computer on the side of the road for rubbish collection, except it looked like it would work (Also it had some RAM) so I took it home.

I installed 7 Ultimate onto it and it runs well other than the fact it won't hibernate. (Big problem for me, because I usually have a lot of stuff open that I want to stay open).

I have tried the Microsoft auto-fixitforme reg files. I tried going into the registry myself, CMD, power options and nothing worked.

Typing in powercfg.exe -a says that my computer supports hibernation.

All help is much appreciated.

Do you actually have a hibernation file. To turn it on, the command is powercfg -h on

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Are the video drivers up to date?

Will it sleep - but just not hibernate?

Answering to both questions:

Yes, the computer will sleep, and all drivers are up to date.

I have also tried powercfg.exe -h on.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Can you see a hibernation file via Windows (file) Explorer?

Maybe some of this info will help:

If you are referring to hyberfile.sys, then no.

I can't see the option in the start menu either.

Yes - that is the file that I figured whs was asking about in post #2.

What is the video card? What version of video driver is installed?

I'll have to check when I get home, I left about 30 mins ago, would the motherboard be OK?

I'm not sure what info will help... but I've seen some threads where going to an older version of the video driver solved issues like this. I'm not sure what all the powercfg.exe -a command checks and Microsoft's documentation is not helping. Maybe the command only checks hardware stuff... but I think that the video drivers have to support hibernation too.
