Hello Matty,
Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing everything in msconfig for your startup items, and we'll be happy to take a look at them to recommend ones that you probably don't need to have enabled to run at startup. :)

how is best to do screen shots without having to print screen then putting on paint to save as jpeg. must be easyer way ???
I'll let others suggest things to uncheck. I'll just say that you should uninstall Java. You probably will not miss it. (edit: uninstall optimizer pro too. IMHO)

To get a screenshot of the active window, use Alt+Prnt Scrn or Fn+Alt+Prnt Scrn on some laptops.

In addition, I would say the first step would be to uninstall any programs that you do not use or need. This will also remove them from running at startup, and save some time.
Be sure to only uninstall programs that you know what they are, and don't want it. If in doubt leave it installed for now, and we'll be happy to help ID it.
