Windows 7 optimization and review
Well I got retail ( RTM 7600 version ) from Windows 7 with both x86 and x64 versions. Spend a couple of days testing both of them and inspecting pc work. So now just want to spend my review with you, because here I will discuss on a couple of thing like HDD speed and optimization win 7.
First of all, Windows7 is faster than Vista with SP2! Even with all effects and Aero stuffs the 32bit version of Windows7 runs perfectly. If you have 2 or 3 gb ram, than Windows7 32bit is the best you can get.
How to optimize it to work even faster?
Believe me there is no many things...
- First check if you are using ACHI in BIOS, of course if you have SATA2 HDD with ACHI supports. If not, I changed from IDE to SATA and Windows 7 ultimate recognize and install automatically ( download from internet i think ) the drivers and controler. After that in device meager I just needed to uninstall and disable my old ATA0 and ATA1 I think.
- Later, the most spoken think that would give performance to your HDD, and will void its use and working all the time is disabling the windows search service, and un-checking indexing from C or D partition ( or the one you got OS installed). Without them HDD is no longer "in force"when nothing working and you will notice that it works better and giving noise only when you copy files or save something. This trick just works perfect.
- Another thing, if you got valid license key, do the updates ( the important ones, not the language pack or office updates ) and most of all if you are using the x64 version. I saw that in it, Windows Update menager gives some security and common updates for the x64 version.
- So here another thing...should I use 32bit or 64 bit.
If you use PC for internet, Office, and kind of lite other programs like...I don't know Fireworks, even photoshop the 32bit works great. However it gives you only 2 GB of ram for the programs, so if you run many programs in background it may be slown down ! And here is the x64 version, where fully 4gb ram is given to the software ( if you got pc like mine with 4 gb ram installed) So if you work video editing ( After Effects, Vegas x64, Premiere ) than for sure the 64 bit version will give you more promises to you. Vegas RAM render works faster, Premiere still not testes but for sure it does too, and After Effects got more RAM too ! You will be able to quick preview more footage.
-Also i mentioned a slightly improvement of games that I tasted on 32bit and 64bit Windows 7, but with latest nvidia drivers. In x64 I noticed that they just worked slightly faster, with zero latency or screen freezing. And also loading scenes in x64 was faster. I tasted on F.E.A.R 2 and Fallout2 with maximum quality and details. However both versions of windows are pre-installed with DirectX11 so that speaks that they are optimized for gaming performance! For sure you will must have at least GeForce 8500 to experience this.
So this was my review and explaining some thing about windows 7 and speed. If you got some questions feel free to ask me. And maybe I will do another review, just more explained. =)
