Slow PC.....need some advice

Dell, W-7, 64-bit, Intel-i5, RAM-6gig, HDD-1TB (75% full), Security-MSE.

1. I uninstalled all useless programs including Java, toolbars....etc.
2. Ran CCleaner including the Registry cleaner.
3. Ran Malwarebytes (full scan) - no viruses but tons of junk got removed.
4. Ran SuperAntiSpyware (full scan) - nothing found.
5. Disabled majority of Start-up items, just left essential programs.
6. HDD is defragmented.

After the restart PC is still sluggish, though the Task Manager shows that very few resources are used.

With the spec it has this PC should be flying....!!!!

Any advice....?

When was it last "flying" as you'd expect?

Any hardware changes since that date?

Is your impression that it is slow based on anything measurable or is it a "feeling"?

What i5?

How many processes running and RAM used when it is lagging?

Lagging at any particular task or in all tasks?

How is performance if you disable EVERYTHING in startup?

This is not my PC and know nothing about its history.

i5 - is a processor.

It is lagging when I open a program like CCleaner or any other.
The lagging is noticeable, especially when I was running Malwarebytes it struggled to open any additional program, though the Task Manager was showing only 30% RAM and 3% CPU was used. Malwarebytes and TeamViewer were the only programs running then.

The PC has also several Epson printer programs installed, but I just do not think they would cause an issue + they do not start automatically.

I have 4 PCs (including an old XP) at home and they all run blazing fast. You click on a program and its up and running.

Are there any (free) diagnostic tools to help with this issue.........?

I know it's an i5; but there are many different i5s. Which do you have? Right click "computer" and look at properties. It should say something like "i-5 2400" or whatever.

Since you know nothing about it's history, I assume this PC has never been "fast" in your personal experience?

How many processes running typically? (processes tab of task manager, with "show processes from all users" checked.)

Look at "physical memory" on the performance tab of task manager. How much shown as total, cached, available, and free?

Repeat: any improvement if you turn off EVERYTHING in startup?

Do a reboot and open a common program like Word or Excel or CCleaner or Photoshop and tell me how many seconds it takes to open, right after the reboot.

i5 , but which I5 , first , 2nd , 3rd , or 4th generation ? how many cores ? and what is your GPU ? if u experiencing no-reason-slowdown , it might be a virus , fake/ungenuine OS common problems , might even some problems with hardwares

and also do not turn off start up stuffs if u dont know its effects , i suggest go to start menu , type msconfig and choose full start up , u have 6gb ram , some extra task wont slow u down :P

I will find out tomorrow about GPU, CPU and other details.

But just for my curiosity - how does virus slow down your PC, does it use huge amount of CPU or RAM....? Because when I was running Malwarebites and it struggled opening CCleaner I noticed that only 5% CPU and 30% RAM was used. When I finished with Malwarebites performance improved substantially, but still it was not flying.

This PC is no older than 5yo, even with i5 first generation it should open any 2-3 programs simultaneously without any delay, we are not talking about some advanced gaming here - am I wrong...?

well , i guess best shot for u now is just reinstall windows or restore it back to its origin , and trust me dont use any performance boost or speed up softwares , it will just slow your pc down even more >.<

Malware scans put a good workload on the hard drive. You may have an older not so fast HD for all we know.

"Still not flying" after Malwarebytes. Compared to what? You say you know nothing of this PC's history or whether it ever "flew".

Do a reboot and then immediately do some common tasks and let us know how quickly it responds in seconds, not how it "feels".

Details on RAM usage and processes needed.
