Several instances of dllhost.exe consuming high amount of RAM

I have a Dell laptop that a friend gave me to look at. It runs very slow and I found that the RAM usage was running about 75-80%. After checking the Processes I found several instances of dllhost.exe consuming a large number of the RAM. I only get one instance of it when I boot into Safe Mode. I have found some other threads in other forums and it seems like people are torn on what it could be but do offer up several scans and checks to run to try to get the issue resolved.

I ran Memtest and found no issues and I attempted to run Spybot in both regular and Safe Mode but when I go to start the scan, the program just hangs up (version 2.2). I ran a scan on McAfee (came with the computer) and it came up no found issues (which doesn't mean much with this program).

    Any insight/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Dllhost.exe just loads and runs a Dll as if it were an exe. What it's doing is totally up to the Dll in question. If your friend uses WMP to share media files that can be a memory and disk hog. Look for mobsync.exe in Task Manager.

Other than that you need to look in TM and see which Dlls Dllhost.exe is hosting.
