Fresh Windows 7 installation, slower though?

Hello guys, I have recently reinstalled Windows 7 and to be honest I'm not content with the way it moves around.

So to be short, I haven't installed Windows for over 3 years and it was good. Recently I just got to notice that it took a bit longer to start(for me) and I had nearly all my HDD full (600 GB). So I decided to reinstall Windows.

Now to be honest I'm not happy at all with the way it starts, also nearly half of my memory ram is beeing used at start even though I have no big programs installed. Even when on idle it uses like half of it. Not sure if it's just me but last time I installed Windows 7 it was way better and didn't use that much ram at start.

I have an obsession with PC perfomance since I reckon I installed windows 4 times in the last 48 hours. lol I know, that's just stupid. Another problem I have is that I don't have my drivers disk which is pretty bad. I've been told that once all the windows updates/drivers are installed it will run faster, and I did so the last time I installed Windows (back in 2011) and it ran smooth. Here's my specs guys, the PC is pretty old but it had a good run.

Bumping this. Am I beeing too hazy in writting? Just to clear it out guys. Right now I have no programs on and 1.14 GB out of 2 are beeing used on nothing, except 6 chrome processes opened(even tho I only have 2 tabs on right now). Also I'm doubtful regarding how my games will run on this(I'm not planning on running the newest ones).

My computer rating is 4.9, I think last time it was better with all the things I had(before reinstalling).

Using 1.14 GB of RAM with no programs open isn't unusual at all.

I just rebooted and am using .97 GB RAM, with 53 processes running.

With 2 GB of RAM, Win 7 32 Bit might help your performance.
Win 7 32 Bit recommended minimum RAM is 1 GB
Win 7 64 Bit recommended minimum RAM is 2 GB

There's a lot of background processing going on after an OS install as Windows builds indexes, checks for updates, defrags, runs setups and generally cleans up after itself. You need to give a new install some "alone" time while all of these tasks catch up. Let the PC stand idle for several hours or overnight before passing judgment on performance.

One of my friends suggested me to install the x32 bit Windows 7 as I don't have the recommended resources to run the current version. The weird thing is, I had the x64 bit one for over 3 years and never complained about perfomance... I'll take some time to read through the links you've sent me. Thanks for answering.

If anyone has any more answers regarding this please do not lock this. The question should be:
    • Why is Windows running slower after a clean installation?

    Haha, I guess

Well, I have some programs installed right now and I actually got them meanwhile Windows was installing its updates. I only got Yahoo Messenger, Skype, and Eset to mention. I have the tendency to put some antivirus program after I reinstall my windows just to prevent any risks.

Do you recommend me to reinstall a clean Windows 7 64 bit (I don't think I'll get the 32 bit) and let Windows run its course?

I don't see any benefit running 64-bit on 2GB of memory. It will use more memory itself as will any 64-bit programs you add. The address space is still limited and increasing the pagefile size on a HDD isn't going to help performance much. I think the most bang for buck on any system is 4GB or more of memory. With that, you must run a 64-bit OS but the speed difference is noticeable.
