How to know if the system/computer is preforming how it really should?

How do i know that my hardware is preforming correctly with the system or in other words that my system is preforming its best with the hardware ?
sorry for my noobi way of explaining this hope you understood me.

Win8/8.1,Win7-U64, Vista U64, uncounted Linux distor's

Google "Bench test software" There is cpu tests, gpu tests, hdd/ssd tests, everything you could think of. Most are free downloads.
