    OK thnks! So there is no such thing as software that can check the computer's power usage.

    Yeah, the hardware gizmo to get is a "Killawatt". About the size of a TV remote control.

    Sells for 20 or 25 bucks and is available at online retailers and Costco.

    Plug in your PC, refrigerator, TV, or anything else to get a reading of the watts used.

    The system shown in my system specs uses 115 watts at idle and 165 watts under heavy load. That includes monitor and modem.

    It's a good way to get yourself out of the notion that you need a 600 watt power supply.
