Additional info:
When I open Task Scheduler, I get a dialog that reads
"Task BackgroundConfigSurveyor: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with."
Here is an old SF thread I found.
It looks like post #3 has a fix for this issue.
Make sure you have backups in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks, David
I performed the fix you linked to - it appears to have worked.
Now I'll see if Defrag runs at the next scheduled time.
I appreciate your help!
You're welcome.
Glad to hear that worked and thanks for posting back!
Let us know if the scheduled defrags work.
According to Task Scheduler, Defrag did not run this morning.
I am looking in Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Defrag.
In Disk Defragmenter, it reads: "Scheduled defragmentation is turned on - Run at 03:00 every Wednesday
How do I figure out why Defrag is not running?
In the Defrag Scheduled Task what does it show for Next Run Time ?
Are other scheduled tasks running ok ?
I would do a System File Check (SFC) to see if that finds and fixes any issues.
If SFC finds issues you may need to run it 3 times with a reboot after each run to fix all issues.
Use Option TWO in this tutorial by Brink.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
9/3/2014 03:00:00 - over the period that I've been working on this issue (last couple of weeks), the Next Run Time has always been as it should be - i.e. the next Wednesday at 0300In the Defrag Scheduled Task what does it show for Next Run Time ?
I don't know. The Task Status Summary is 88 total.... 0 failed. Does that answer your question? Are other scheduled tasks running ok ?
Elevated command reads: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."I would do a System File Check (SFC) to see if that finds and fixes any issues.
Another other ideas?
Yea, if it shows 88 Total and 0 failed it sounds like tasks do run ok.
See if you can manually run the Defrag task.
Right click on the Defrag Task and click Run.
I ran Defrag manually last night. It appeared to have run normally.
However, it ran it from Control Panel > Disk Defragmenter, not by right-clicking on the task from Task Manager as you said (I guess I inadvertently skipped that part of what you wrote - sorry).
Does running it from Control Panel > Disk Defragmenter make any difference as far as troubleshooting the issue goes?
