Hello friends i need a bit of help here, i just bought a 9600 gt 1b ddr3(MSI) card......... i was expecting a score of 7.9 for aero and 6.0 for gaming graphics as many people in this forums are getting those scores, but to my surprise i got only 5.9 in both the categories... help needed pls
are you running the RC1, the 7000 build, or an earler leak, I have noticed my scores drop a little with each newer version of Win 7

When you compare your scores with others here, it would be nice if you knew which version, and drivers they were running,

My scores in 7000 Beta with $1100 worth of Video cards and a 4.0 oc & my scores running RC1 7100: ( sometimes with tweeking, mor OC, and newer drivers I can get them back up a touch, but dont expect 7.9 graphics untill at least the next generation of graphic cards.)

It only rates one of your cards and not the four collectively.

It would be nice if they fixed that, I would update the firmware on my SSD's, Push my OC to 4.2, and consider more Ram if I thought the 7.9 was possable, but knowing that nothing I do will take me above 6.5, and sence it would involve a reinstall of Windows 7, and Vista, to update SSD Firmware, It's not worth the effort now.

First The Beta 7000 did give higher scores than the RC1 does, there is a matrix in the program that asses the computer and provides the score, the matrix limits the score based on conditions, example a WHQL certified driver will yeald better scores than a non WHQL driver will, also a DX10 driver will provide better scores than a DX9 only driver will, So if you want the same score as them, you need to use the same OS version, and the same drivers.
Second Just because the score is better does not mean the performance is better,
the matrix works like an old BASIC program with (If then) statments

furthor example Vista uses a difrent matrix than Win 7, the fatest card in the world will only yeald a 5.9 in vista, However the performance you get in gameing will still be relative to what the card can do, not what vista says it can do. That same card in Windows 7 may yeald a 7.0, because it's not DX11 certified, a diffrent card might be DX11 certified but runn at half the speed, Win 7 may give it a 7.5, but in real life the faster DX10 card will blow away the slower DX11 card in frame rates, and actual performance.

Another example of WEI flakyness, You could have 12 GB of DDR3 mem running at 1333, and compair that with a system with 3 GB of DDR3 2000 memory, WEI will limit the score because of the amount of memmory, but less memory at a faster speed could actully provide better performance than more memore at a slower speed.

Scores are difrent because the rules change during the game, it's a beta, and there still tweaking it. It's programed to look for specific conditions and add or subtract based on the condition, it does not realy mesure performance

Another example I have 2 295 cards running in Quid SLI, (about $1100) worth of video cards, Windows only grades the 1st GPU, so someone with a 275 ( a $250 card) would score the same or higher than me, but in real life with a program that supports SLI I might get a frame rate of 45, and he might get a frame rate of 14, despite having the same score.

exactly the reason why i dont even pay attention to the WEI anymore, i may refresh if add new hardware or at Install... but that thing might as well be a slot machine as far as i am concerned, no real practical use. As long as aero is enabled and memory showing correct, i pay no mind to scores anymore.

Those results are from earlier builds of windows 7 as if you notice the date it was last november which was when build 6801 was out. It was not until around build 7048 was leaked that the scores were scaled down, due to the fact Microsoft was taking into account hardware of the future. It wont be until after the release of windows 7 will we see any hardware reaching 7.9 on the richter scale.

I probably wasn't very clear in my example, but if you look at my scores you will notice I had a 7.9 in Aero Graphics on the top score using build 7000, but I got a 6.5 on the bottom score using RC1 7100, Same mechine, only diferance other than OP SYS version, top score had 12 Gigs of mem runing at 2T, bottom had 6 Gig running at 1T. I took out 6 Gigs, because I got better scores with the 6 Gig

If you want to see a 7.9 you could unenstall RC1 and install 7000 and that might get you the score your looking for, but it will have no affect on your actual performance.

You're going to let a Windows WEI score keep you from upgrading/tweaking your machine? Don't.

I'm not leting it stop me, just delay me, I like doing fresh installs when I upgrade my Operating system, and I'm going to buy and install the real version as soon as it's released, so rather than go through 4 installs, as a new install will be necessary when I upgrade the firmware on the SSD's, both Vista and Win 7, and at least another install when the final Win 7 is released, I'm just going to wait and upgrade and install at the same time, I think The final version might be out to hit the christmas crowed, I'll just put that off for 6 months. Plus if another SSD firmware comes out between now and then, It will save me two more installs. The installs dont bother me, it's finding all the other software disks, all the newer drivers, and redownloading all the stuff that I found on the web, plus back up's and saving what I cant replace, and then reloading.
