RAM Usage

fro what your saying your not using your pc for very intensive stuff.... why on earth do you need that much? and using less RAM is a GOOD thing! if your not using it all it means that your PC is coping comfortably.... start worrying when under "normal" usage it starts using all the RAM and lagging.... but 32G is a bit excessive it has to be said... and X64 is capable of using all 32Gb IF its needed, obviously its not in your case

I had 5gig ram utilisation earlier today, mostly used by web browsers

since they all use ram for cache and mem leaks. But I had to close 2 of them down as my cpu was been hogged down for some reason. So just using 3.23 gig now. :)

Sounds like you're complaining because your pc is efficient. I wish I had your problem.

and theres me hunting for leaks if i start using more than 1.8GB.... mind you that is for home use... no idea what you use yours for, i guess video editing etc would use alot more

Sounds like you're complaining because your pc is efficient. I wish I had your problem.

I am certainly not complaining that I have resources to spare and then some. I was just curious as to why my RAM usage only went up from 2.5GB (8%) or 3.2GB (10%) at "ideal" to a max of about 4GB (12%) of RAM usage under "heavy" usage. I just thought that a 64bit OS would use much more RAM if it had it and I wondered why it did not. That is my question.

Go to task manager to be sure all your ram is recognized.
In search type memory diagnostic, to see if everything is ok. If these work out, do not worry about it your computer is working properly and will use the additional ram if needed.

Probably your heavy usage is not heavy enough to fill 32 GBs, just a thought.

I would think that would be accurate usage based on what you described. I did the same with my 4 GB and was at about 85% usage. If you want to stress test your system make a movie while doing multi track audio editing with a program like Pro Tools. That'll make your RAM sweat a bit.

home use, but my style of using a web browser isnt typical.

I tend to leave dozens and dozens of sites loaded in tabs just incase I need them again soon. I use maxthon, IE8, FF and opera. Opera and FF have saved states of over 50 tabs each, maxthon has another 40 or so, IE is only able to save one window worth of states which is 12 tabs however I usually have another 20 or 30 pages loaded at any given time. My machine has 6 gig of ram so using 5 gig wasnt a problem as such but my browsers were bogging the processor down.
