20+ Start up of Dell Laptop and Poor Performance??

    Hi,

I have had my Dell Studio 1555 with a reasonable spec since 2009 and have never had any real issues. The start up has always taken about 5 minutes, however now the start up from dell booting, to windows, to Microsoft etc. is literally taking 20+ minutes or struggling to load at all.

This is quite a sudden change from slow to extremely slow. I have removed unnecessary start-up programmes and attempted to run malwarebytes and Norton security scanning, however these crashed whilst running. Part of the norton scan is to defrag the hardrive and remove temporary files etc.

The actual functioning of windows and Microsoft once it has loaded isn't terrible but the initial booting is very suspicious almost virus like? The screen remains blank for a long period and will after a long time load into a functioning mode. It is also crashing more than usual when loaded.

Tonight I was going to run the malwarebytes and norton in safe mode to see if any viruses are picked up? Could it be malware, adware etc. or maybe a piece of hardware has just gone bad?

This is out of the ordinary and would appreciate any advice before I pay out for a new device or get fixed by a pro.

    Thanks guys!

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. Yes boot into Safe Mode and see if you can run a scan with Malwarebytes ...

I would also run a System Scan to see if you have corrupt Files ...

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please Post back your Results ...

    Startup Repair

I don't know if this has happened due to my fiddling with the startup applications, but my system went into a startup repair mode? Basically it said that startup repair cannot repair the computer automatically!

Root caused: Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused this problem.
Repair Action: System files integrity check and repair.
    Error code= 0x45d

I am not sure if this is related to the extremely slow issue I was having?

I am also running a Windows Memory diagnostics tool which popped up, not sure if this will say if anything is wrong?

    thanks

    Hi,

I have it in safe mode currently it is scanning with malwarebytes and norton. I did just get an error message saying COM Surrogate not responding, not sure whether this has any relevance?

Unfortunately my laptop crashed overnight whilst scans were running, I am currently attempting to run another but it takes about 4 hrs+.

I did see some of the results there were some malware found by malwarebytes but not norton.

Is there any other software I should be using to scan the system?

Once again I have tried to run the norton and malware bytes but the system has crashed after 3 hrs so the scans are not completed and I guess no malware removed?
