Windows 7 Repair Fails
Hello All,
My PC was running slowly so I ran CCleaner, Windows Defender (from a CD at startup) and cleaned out entries in the registry. For the registry cleaning I used CCleaner. After these steps, the PC performance has definitely improved but I wanted to run one final program which is SFC /SCANNOW from the command prompt. Once the scan completed, I got a message saying there were issues and the program created an error log. I ran the scan 3 more times as the tutorial said to run it a few times. I looked at the log and there were a lot of issues so I figured I would run a Windows 7 Repair Install.
I tried to install Windows 7 Sp1 and the install failed. The CD I have is about a year old so I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded a new copy to make sure I have the latest release. I tried to re-run the Windows Repair and the program got through about 85% of the install and then it said it could not complete and I was being reverted to my old Windows 7 install.
I then downloaded the upload Windows upgrade adviser to see what might have been hanging up the install and the upgrade advisor said that my PC was ready for Windows 7 and there were no issues. I did see that the Windows Repair Install created a windows compatibility report on my desktop and it says the following:
I am probably showing my ignorance but I do not have anything in control panel that resembles any HUAWEI device. I put the machine together and I know that nothing with HUAWEI was installed. Perhaps this is a program that is installed by windows? I do not recognize HUAWEI or anything else in the first group that has the words "mobile connect" in it.These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers.
Modems: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem
Network adapters: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Network Card
Ports (COM & LPT): HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Application Interface (COM4)
Ports (COM & LPT): HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface (COM5)
These programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: Programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade.)
iTunes (Please deauthorize computer prior to upgrade)
ATI CATALYST Install Manager *
Anti-Malware Core
ATI Catalyst Control Center *
The second group is slightly more recognizable - at least I have heard of these items. With the exception of iTunes which I could remove, I do not have an ATI video card. Here is my video card:
So my question is do I keep trying to troubleshoot this or call it a day. Like I said the PC performance has improved but it does bother me that when I tried to install Windows 7 SP1\Repair that it failed two times.Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x68BA)
Thanks, Bill
