Several unknown problems in optimized Win7 Professional 32-bit

    Hi everyone

I'm experiencing several problems with an optimized win7 installation, though that i've been working on this through months.

I've already solved most of them, but there are some that i can't solve, and the system itself doesn't help (The error messages don't match with the actual causes, the troubleshooter doesn't work, etc)

My main problem now is starting some services, such as Windows Event Log and WLAN autoconfig.

All their dependencies are satisfied, all the associated files and dll's are working and registered, but i still get the same message error:

It doesn't specify what is the path that it can't find, but all paths associated to that service on the registry are working, i've checked it many times.

I can't update the system again, but the system was updated in october, and all updates were ok, there were no problems.

I have a single user, and there are no permission issues anymore, all the system and service profiles are also functional, and all drivers are updated and working.

I've also cleaned the registry and scanned for issues, none have been found.

The only other problem i have now is with the Windows Update system, once CBS Manifest is corrupted, and i just can't find a way to correct it (all given solutions on internet fail with me, nothing can correct this, but all files associated to CBS Manifest are ok, i don't know why it says it's corrupted)

So, do anyone know what can i do?

Here are some other screenshots to help:

Ps.: I've also sought for support on answers.microsoft, but all supporters seem to give me generic answers and basic steps, and no automated solutions work too.

    WLAN error in optimized mode

Im pretty sure I ran into this a few months ago when I tried to use optimized mode. try control panel, system and security, advanced tools, open task manager, click on services tab, click on services tab with the security shield on bottom. use scrollbar to scroll down to WLAN Auto Config, right click, open properties make sure the start up type is set to manual unless you are on a Wire Less Area Network then set to automatic. if your system detects disabled it will give you this error. also check dependencies tab and make sure that the services that WLAN depends on and check to make sure they are set to manual or auto depending on if you are wired (manual) wireless (auto) even though i am not on a wireless network I still got the error code and the program I used also installed a floppy drive in my system where I have no drivers or support for one on my system at all and it put it first in my boot sequence. really slows the boot time. the time I spent fixing the problems with the optimized mode was about a billion times the time optimized mode saved me in my daily use. I have tried several different programs and configurations to get the most out of my system and have found that all of these programs do not work. they all take up space on your hard drive and embed them in your startup menu and suck on the efficiency of your system. I honestly spent over 100 hours researching, downloading programs, reconfiguring my system according to the "experts" and un doing such configurations, removing performance enhancement programs and fixing everything they messed up. best solution is component upgrades.

Very seldom , if EVER , does the registry need "cleaning", "optimizing" etc. Also, if you are using/have used any of those so-called "optimizing" programs out there you should stop now. Do a system restore to a point before these issues started at the very least, if not a repair or new installation (which I would recommend). You could TRY a sfc/scannow to check for any broken/corrupt system files. Here are some links to tutorials you may want to check out : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Repair Install

    Clean Install Windows 7

And last but not least, if you really think you need to "optimize" Windows, HERES the safe recommended way to do it : Optimize Windows 7

Well, the scanning the registry for issues can be useful, and cleaning can reduce the registry if there are useless entries.

I've been working in optimization of OS's for 8 years now, i don't use many optimization softwares, i mostly do it manually, and use the registry cleaner, Ccleaner and a disk defragger to help me some times in easy tasks (such as keeping the system clean after it's finished).

The OS's i'm more used to work with are Debian-based GNU/Linux's and Windows XP. Particularly with Windows XP, I've not had any issues for years, it's a simple and very modifiable OS.

But i'm starting with Windows 7 now, and it takes a time to learn to tweak an new OS, specially if the purpose is to make a complete OS (I use to make dedicated systems with modified OS's, so I only need to bother with few features, but this is not the case)

Windows Vista and later versions seem much more "sensible" than XP, much more features are inter-dependent, and they are much more prone to fail due to simple errors.

And, there are many much more features, so learning to modify these Windows is a little bit harder.

Just as it's hard to learn some Linux's, I struggled for months until I made a functional modified Damn Small Linux version capable to run firefox and enter facebook through a i486 with 32Mb of RAM.

I would suggest the first problem is you got your XP hat on.
Hang up the XP hat and put on the Windows 7 hat.

You will never tweak Windows 7 like we all did with XP and keep Windows 7 working as it should.
Windows 7 doesn't want or need all those tweaks.

Eight years of tweaking XP is really not helping you when you are using Windows 7.

I agree with indianacarnie, these are also the 3 steps I recommend.

/SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Repair Install

    Clean Install Windows 7

    Some tutorials that will help.

I agree Layback bear. It's not necessary to play around with services especially windows services to make 7 optimized. You only need to look for non microsoft services, start up and scheduled tasks. Also forget about using ccleaner's registry or any other registry cleaners unless you only set them to remove obsolete entries and recent file location lists.

But that's exactly the only functions i use from Ccleaner and registry cleaners, keeping the system clean afterwards by removing obsolete registry entries and trash files.

The rest i do manually, using the OS itself to remove unwanted and unecessary features, configuring the memory options, swap options, energy options, themes, etc.

I don't expect to do the same i did to Windows XP, i'll never make a 400Mb Windows 7 that can run on 32Mb on memory as i did with XP. I still use XP for dedicated small systems (or a Linux, if i can't find the drivers of that computer for XP.)

I only wanted to make it a little bit lighter, and some microsoft services and other configurations are completely safe to be disabled or changed.

The problem came when i tried to delete system files, this is the reason of all this problems.

I had absolutely no problems by configuring system services and system configurations, neither by cleaning the registry and trash files with Ccleaner.

I think i'll re-install it and i will let the system files alone this time, i have plenty of space now, i'll only clean trash files.

Windows 7 Pro has no problems running 32 gigs of ram if you just let Windows 7 manage the memory. I have run from 4 gig to 32 gig 2400 speed ram with no problems. I just let Windows 7 manage the memory completely. I have changed settings for the ram in the bios and notice very little actual difference.

I highly recommend not messing with System Files in Windows 7.

Windows 7 is all ready light. I cam that way from Microsoft. They did the work for us.

If you stay within the guide lines of this Tutorial by Brink you will be fine.

    Optimize Windows 7

Just read through the tutorial and pick and choose which ones you want to try.
