Random freezes requiring Hard Reboot

As the title says, I'm experiencing random crashes in the form of freezing. No BSOD, no power down or reset, just an unrecoverable freeze.
The computer is a relatively new build (3-4 months old), and this has been happening the entire time.
This occurs during gaming, Installation of software, and various other instances.
Memtest showed nothing, so the RAM is probably fine.

Hard drive passed the short test, running the long test now.
As for the rest of the troubleshooting list, ive done just about all of them already, including a full reinstall of windows.

You can eliminate the HD and OS as culprits by running for awhile with a boot disk like Peppermint3 - Create Live CD/DVD/USB To Use For Emergency Backup - Windows 7 Forums with the HD unplugged. If the problem occurs then you know the problem is with the hardware which has various stress tests that can be run next to try to induce the condition.

So, I've been running peppermint of a thumb drive, streaming video for several hours with the HDD unplugged, and ive experienced no crashes. With the drive having passed its tests, and having recently reinstalled windows, I'm not sure what to make of this.

There are reinstalls and then there is the Clean Reinstall Windows 7
compiled in the blue link that has been used by over a million consumers without a single complaint or return with problems. This can be made into a Diagnostic Reinstall as follows:

After doing the prescribed backups so you know you've got everything, wipe the hard drive with Diskpart Clean Command.

Following the tutorial to the letter, install Win7 with the ethernet cable plugged in to maximize the chance of starting connected. If not, install the LAN driver to get online. Test performance.

Now Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6),
Check for Updates, install any drivers under Important and Optional, after requested reboot Test Performance again.

Next check for Updates again, install all Important and Optional, after reboot, Test Performance again.

Go back and check for Updates again, testing performance after each group is installed with reboot, until no more are offered. Test performance as long as necessary.

Now install the most used programs in order of importance, testing performance after each one is installed with a reboot.

Continue to test performance after each program and settings change until the problem occurs which will narrow down the culprit if it is in the install.

The blue links are tutorials showing how to perform steps like Diskpart Clean Command.

In this case use Option One in Command Prompt at Startup - Windows 7 Help Forums

Will it install any Updates? Try again.

What drivers are missing in Device Manager now? What display driver is installed? Chipset? Check Sata controller

Did you test the RAM - Test with Memtest86+ ?

What installation media did you use? Latest version?

What is the SATA controller setting in BIOS? Is there a newer BIOS version?

If you've already installed AVG I would test without it, try MSE or Panda cloud which present less problems we see here.
