Many files in C:\Windows [and maybe other locations] are hidden on purpose. Doing wholesale deletion of .dll files [and some others] will surely result in killing Windows or programs, cause a re-install to have to be done. There's a reason they are hidden and at this point I'd have to say that Microsoft's Windows is trying to protect us from our own stupidity or ignorance.
They are not really hidden. Windows redirects 32bit programs to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" where it keeps all 32bit DLLs and subsystems. But as far as the application is concerned they are in "C:\Windows\System32" when they are not truly there.
I'm not trying to delete all dll's but only the ones found by scanning with minihost a music program and it gives me a list of dll's from a music program I've deleted previously(2 years ago) in fact but it seems to have left many of the plug in dll's on my program files on C drive but when I look for them I can't find them.HELP!!!
Deleting programs does leave behind files no longer needed but Uninstalling a program should properly remove all the associated files and Registry entries. It is possible the program you are using, "minihost for VST's", is seeing references to the .dll files in the Registry.dll's from a music program I've deleted previously
Thanks for the reply I think I'll leave well alone I don't have the revelant knowhow! Thanks again.
You're welcome.
