Long boot time with unresponsiveness for up to 30mins

    Hey all,

I have tried to figure out why my PC takes such a long time to boot/be ready for use. I have used all the knowledge i have and have come up empty. Here is a description of my problem.

    1. Start PC
    2. Loads within a few mins
    3. Log in
    4. Computer becomes extremely slow and becomes unresponsive, I am unable to open anything even notepad
    5. This generally carries on for up to 30mins sometimes longer.

This problem occurs from a fresh start-up or hibernate/sleep mode

My main theories are its either Avast being a CPU hog, or my HDD is on it way out.

    Any suggestions would be great,

    Thanks

Have you tried safe mode and/or a clean boot to see if the boot time is the same?
