I have similar number percentages, but of course it will vary widely depending on what you're running. Certainly you seem to have 11 open Chrome windows (and processes), so that's got to take up some storage. Perhaps running one window with 11 tabs might be more efficient.
Posting because I also have a 7 Home Premium x64 that's mostly OEM with 8 GB RAM. 7 tabs open in Chrome, and I'm running about 45% memory usage. I run as high as 55%, as low as 17%. Generally anything below 60% on any Win 7 box, especially with Chrome running, is just fine.

I doubt you need any explanation from me about that. Chrome's multi-process model shines on multi-core setups, Firefox's single process shines on single cores. For many people, anyway.

This is unexpected as well.

I wonder if this is Windows Search Index or something else?
Search Indexer should show up as a svchost eating CPU. I've noticed two specific times when explorer gets too big for its britches: when I'm having issues with Samba sharing, or when I misclick the prompt about my Android being unable to play a filetype and explorer starts transcoding.

I noticed in your services list that you have Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service started. You may be sharing files, and it also does on-the-fly transcoding.

Finally, you don't need to make your windows so massive if you're trying to hide your desktop without extra cropping work. Hold Alt while you press PrtScr and only the active window will be copied. Instead of manually making each column larger/smaller, put your mouse over the dividing line as if you were going to drag it larger/smaller and double-click instead. That (in most programs) auto-resizes the column to its longest entry.
